Writing the Father Wound: A Father's Day Workshop
WRITING THE FATHER WOUND: A FATHER'S DAY WORKSHOP
SUNDAY, JUNE 15th
10-2PM ET
VIRTUAL VIA ZOOM
This workshop is for those of us for whom Father's Day is not always celebratory or happy. Come join us to spend Father's Day writing with kindred spirits in an understanding, gentle environment. Your father wound and whatever accompanies it--grief, despair, humor, love, anger, confusion, healing, nostalgia, hope, numbness--are welcome here!
This space is for those whose father figure was/is absent, estranged, abusive, or otherwise complicated. It's for those whose father figure is deceased or unwell. And it's for those struggling with indefinable, vague, or disenfranchised forms of grief and despair over their father wounds.
Writers from every genre and every level are welcome here, from published writers to folks who've never written before. We will spend our time together reflecting on these wounds through various in-class writing exercises and contemplations, inspired by brief readings and class reflections. We will optionally share our writing in small or large groups, with any feedback given in an encouraging spirit of solidarity, validation, and healing.
Participants need not meet any criteria for applying, and may disclose as much or little as they want to the class. If you struggle with any kind of father wound--however that is defined by you, in your own trustworthy heart--and you'd like to process that through some writing with folks who understand, then you are welcome here.
***IMPORTANT NOTE: The class will start with a brief discussion on how to hold as safe and gentle a space as possible for ourselves and each other to explore these vulnerable topics. All discussion and feedback will be in the spirit of encouragement and connection--this is not a craft study group or a forum for intense writing critique
And though the topic of grief might naturally arise, students should know that this is not a grief support group and is not run by a clinician. If you are experiencing acute grief or trauma, or might otherwise be in need of intensive psychological support around death, you are advised to consider whether a clinical support group is more appropriate at this time.***
CANCELLATIONS, REFUNDS, AND OTHER POLICIES:
Zoom link and any related materials will be emailed to registrants by 2 days before the start of class.
Cancellations five days or more before the class begins will receive a full refund minus a $25 processing fee. For cancellations after that, there can be no refunds, as time is needed to fill cancelled spots. For similar reasons, there can also be no full or partial refunds for students who miss classes after the class has begun, or for students who have attended one or more classes but are dissatisfied with the class. In the rare case that I need to cancel a class, registered students will receive a full refund.
Please note: I reserve the right to use my expertise and discretion to remove students from class, without refund, who display behaviors and speech which are racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, ableist, or otherwise disrespectful and non-compliant with class policies (to be discussed on the first day of class) regarding safe spaces and discrimination.
By registering for this class, you are acknowledging that you fully understand and consent to these policies.
