LITERARY JOURNAL SUBMISSIONS 101 (for all genres)
WHEN: Sunday July 27th, 6-8PM ET
WHERE: Virtual via Zoom. Zoom link will be emailed to registrants 2-3 days before the seminar.
REGISTRATION: See below for the you-choose sliding scale.
DESCRIPTION:
Are you trying to figure out what the heck is up with getting your pieces published in literary journals*? This seminar is a chance to get the basic lowdown on what can feel like the utterly confounding ins and outs of submitting work and getting published in any or all genres.
We will start by addressing the basics, like:
-Considerations for whether you are ready, or not ready, to submit
-Where and how to start
-Types and tiers of journals
-Useful resources
-Considerations for submission fees
-Best practices
-Fuzzy gray areas
-Cover letters and bios
This will be followed by a Q & A period. Participants will also receive a handout with resources and basic notes.
*Important note: We will not cover full manuscript submissions in this seminar--AKA the ins and outs of submitting a full book. This particular seminar is focused on submitting individual poems, short stories, essays, or other standalone short creative writing pieces to literary journals.
CANCELLATIONS: Cancellations three days or more before the seminar will receive a full refund. After that, there can be no full or partial refund for cancelling. There can be no full or partial refunds for registrants who come late, leave early, or do not arrive, or for students who are dissatisfied. In the rare case that the instructor needs to cancel, registered students will receive a full refund.
CONDUCT POLICY: All participants are expected to keep a space of basic respect and gentleness during our time together. I reserve the right to use my professional judgement and expertise to remove people from the event, without refund, if they are not following basic norms of respectful, kind, and anti-oppressive conduct.
